The Taxpayers of the Incorporated Village of Earlville all pay federal, state, county, town, and village taxes. Unfortunately, our town taxes go to pay for services that we as Village residents aren't even privy to.

The town taxes you pay go to a town justice, a town clerk, a town DPW, complete with full time employees, maintenence of town roads and land, and to compensate the members of the town Board of Supervisors.

Your village taxes go to a village justice, a village clerk, a village DPW, complete with full time employees, maintenence of village roads and land, and to compensate the mayor and the village Board of Trustees.

So basically, you're paying for the same things, twice!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, granted, the additional money from Village taxes go to pay for street lights, sidewalks, the storm drains, police, and the fire department, but all of these can be easily transfered to the towns, or to themselves.

The towns could take over maintenence of roads, streetlights, sidewalks, and storm drains....all while using the Town DPW that you as a taxpayer already pay for to service them!

The police department is currently on hiatus, but is it really necessary? Has there been a massive crime wave in Earlville since Murray left the force?
Either way, the village is preparing to spend thousands to have the Madison County Sheriff's department provide a car in the village for 20 hours/week.
Why is it we need a special patrol that will only average less than 3 hours per day in the Village limits? We already pay for Sheriff's Department coverage when we pay our county taxes! Why should we pay extra for the same service?

The fire department could be seperated from the village government and be formed into the "Earlville Fire Protection District." They would charge a flat fire tax to all landowners that own property within the boundaries of the fire district.

You already pay for the Village water department/system when you pay your water bill. Now why couldn't that money instead go to a Water District that would control and maintain the water lines of the current village?

We could continue to have all of this, without the unnecessary financial burden of maintaining an extra 3 full time employees, and 6 elected officials.
