In the near future, I will begin circulating a petiton calling on the Board of Trustees to look into dissolving the village.
New York State law says I need 1/3 of the total number of registred voters in the village to sign it, about 200 people in Earlville's case.
If I get the required number of signatures, I can then submit it to the Village Board. They would then be required to prepare a "Dissolution Plan." This plan would outline whether or not it would be good or bad for the people as a whole if the village were to dissolve.
The "Dissolution Plan" would then made available for the general public to review and discuss. Community input will be essential to complete the final draft resolution. The plan will then be cast before the people in a general referendum, much like a school budget is. If it passes with a majority vote, the Village would then dissolve.
More Information is available on the links in the "Educational Materials" Section.
