I know many people are wondering why we should dissolve the village. I mean, after all, it has chugged along on its own for over 100 years.
Unfortunately, time has not been good to Earlville. Businesses have folded up, the school has abandoned us, the local economy is hemorrhaging money and jobs, and our population has stagnated.
While all of this was going on, the government has continued to raise taxes, even as the level and quality of services has declined!
The water system is in disrepair and decay, we have no sewer system, the DPW is underfunded, the Police Department is gone, and every month we are put at the mercy of NYSEG because we have no public power.
The time when the Village of Earlville was beneficial to the people has long since past.
The time has come to make a decision:
Do we keep paying exorbanent amounts of money for a NAME?
Or
Do we end this now and move on?
