What are the current services that would be lost if the dissolution went through?

Leaf and debris pickup?
Sidewalk snow plowing?
...
What does the village board actually spend in the budget that wouldn't be covered by Hamilton or Sherburne townships?

I've been to more than a few board meetings and didn't get a feel for what was being provided to the community.

Services such as street lights, sidewalk maintenece and debris cleanup could be continued. They would only be administered by the respective Town's DPW rather than the Village DPW. I cannot give specifics here, however, if a dissolution committe is created, they will have full authority to negotiate continuation of services with each Town Board of Supervisors. New York State Village Law permits and endorses this.

I must reiterate, by signing the petition, you are not dissolving the village right away. You would only be compelling the Village government to conduct a study and formulate a plan for dissolution. This plan will analyze and outline the exact costs and benefits of dissolution. The draft proposition would then be placed on the ballot for a referendum. It must then pass with a majority vote to be approved.

In the "Educational Materials" section of this forum, I have posted links to the dissolution studies completed for the Village of Cherry Creek in Chautauqua County, NY and the Village of Fillmore in Allegany County. The Cherry Creek plan showed tax reduction to village residents from approximately $17.50 per $1,000 assessed value to $14.20 per 1,000 assessed value (not including water and sewer bills).

The Village of Fillmore dissolution also decreased spending. Expenditures in fiscal years 1995 and 1996 were less than they were prior to the consolidation (dissolution) of the Village in 1994.

Services continuted relatively unchanged in both of these villages after they dissolved, and all of this is outlined in their respective dissolution studies.

All of the facts and figures are outlined in detail in each dissolution study. A similar study to these will be performed on the Village of Earlville should I acquire enough signatures on the petition.
